Raise your hand if you’re excited to up your jacket game!
Spring fashion weeks and the streets of NYC has been swallowed by one thing recently: The Spring Blazer Jacket. Spotted on runways from Prada to Bottega Veneta to any indie New York fashion show, we can already tell the oversized blazer is going to be our season staple. A blazer jacket is a fantastic option for spring styling - a more lightweight wear for the transitional weather, and an easily inserted “cool” factor for your wardrobe. A blazer can be flexibly styled, and spans looks from streetwear to glam. It can elevate an ensemble in a second!
A subtle yet statement piece, the oversized blazer is a trend that we’re loving!! This garment offers the same powerful silhouette that conquered women’s dress in the 1980’s. Left open and dressed down, the recent use of the jacket offers a freshly feminine twist on its styling. This week, we’re sharing our favorite ways to wear this versatile piece out to dinner, to the meeting, or even to the grocery store! The oversized blazer will take you on a journey through any and every aesthetic this spring season.
01: With A Bralette
A bralette…are you sure? Yes. We. Are. Pairing the oversize blazer with a bralette or bustier top is a fantastically modern way to turn a look. This provides an edginess that is incredibly feminine, yet offers comfort and coverage when you need it. We like to pair our Checkmate Silk Bustier with a largely oversized black blazer for a chic, monochromatic moment.
02: Slip Dress
A nineties favorite, this is another garment that beautifully balances a powerful oversized blazer. A slip dress is slinky, breathable, and perfect for spring weather! Why not pair the two for a fierce night out, or a fashion-forward workday fit? This look creates a more mysterious and flowy silhouette, and brings a fun, sexy twist to the more stoic blazer. Turtleneck + Slip Dress + Oversized Blazer = Unstoppable street style.
03: Mock Neck or Turtleneck
Mentioned above, mock necks and turtlenecks are a fantastic choice to pair with the oversized blazer look. A more subtle combo, this is an easy professional look. Style with a high-waisted skirt, or pair with a silk X-Pant. For an unexpected accessory, try some ornate brooches on the lapel, or layered chain necklaces. The combination of stiffer traditional “business wear” and excessive jewelry can create an eye-catching duo. She owns 51% of this company!
04: Form-fitting pants or Leggings
This one's for our comfy professionals. The oversized blazer is a statement piece and has a looser fit - a pair of pants that hugs your curves creates a flattering silhouette. Not to mention getting to wear a sneaky pair of cozy leggings to the office every so often. Try a bold colorblock combo of these two, or some mixed prints and textures.
05: Mini Dress
Pairing the oversized blazer with a mini dress has especially been on our radar for the last few months. Endless street style inspiration from celebrity paparazzi photos have featured this combo. A long blazer paired with a shorter dress offers an interesting change-up - the dress might really only be visible when the jacket is left open! It’s not a silhouette you see that often, but is absolutely slaying this spring.
06: Baggy denim
Hellooo street style! We absolutely love combining a statement blazer with a more rough-and-tumble piece: baggy or wide-leg jeans make a perfect casual daytime look for this spring. The jacket gives an elevated touch and has great contrast to heavy denim. Try a shredded denim for an edgier look, a mom jean for more 80’s-inspired vibes, or raw edges for a great touch of texture. Don’t forget your heels for an easy, breezy, and chic moment!
